Disappointment of the Month

I don't normally like to do posts like this but I felt like was doing the public a disservice if I didn't in this instance.

Everyone, I hereby give you the biggest disappointment I have come across in quite a while:

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula - Daily Calming Lotion

Last month when we were away in Port Macquarie I forgot to take extra moisturiser due to my current one at the time getting quite low and of course, as fate would have it I run out. Due to the sun, wind and sand I was having a couple of particularly bad skin days so I ran to the local shopping centre and picked up the first thing in Target that looked suitable to stop my agony.

Big mistake!

This supposed 'Calming Lotion' has the wonderful tendency to irritates my skin even more and any itchy, red patches that I may have just seem to get even more itchy and actually seem to burn after I apply this.

On top of that, it smells absolutely hideous!!! I don't know about you but every other Palmer's product I have ever used (and there have been a great many) has always had that trademark cocoa butter scent which is actually quite lovely. Well, this has a stale beer kind of smell which I think is very unpleasant and not a scent that I like to apply to my poor skin.

To give you an indication of how bad this cream actually smells, here is a snippet of a conversation my husband and I had when we went to bed last night:

Hubby: 'What is that you're putting on, it smells rank, doesn't that Palmer's stuff normally smell really nice?'
Me: 'Yeah, it's certainly not the best one I've ever used, but I got it when I was desperate when we were away at Port so am just trying to use it up.'
Hubby: 'Please, for the sake of our marriage, don't ever use that cream again!'

This was no joke, and for my hubby, who is usually completely oblivious to almost everything, noticed how bad this cream smells, it's bad!

Please Palmer's, change the formula of this cream or at least make it unscented. It's not fit for public sale in it's current form.

Has anyone else tried this lotion? Did I just get a dud bottle? Have you ever been as disappointed in a product like this before?

Review - Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Night Renewal Cream

I think I have finally found my holy grail night cream and it's in the form of Palmer's Cocoa Butter Night Renewal Cream.

I bought this cream a little while ago when doing my grocery shopping as I'd seen other good reviews about it and wanted to give it a go for myself.

What the product claims:
'Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Night Renewal Cream is a rich, reviving cream that contains cocoa and shea butter to moisturise, retinol for renewal, peptides to plump skin and milk proteins to improve texture and tone.'
I now have to say that I have fallen in love with this cream and look forward to slathering it on my face every night before bed. It's a gorgeous white cream that is quite thick but it absorbs into the skin really fast and leaves no greasy residue behind. My skin feels so hydrated after applying this cream and any sensitive areas on my face seem to feel soothed after use as well.

I love how soft and smooth it makes my skin feel in the morning and the smell to me is just gorgeous. It's not the typical cocoa butter smell but still very pleasant for a product that goes on the face.

I've been using this cream for at least two months now and haven't had any reaction to it at all and I seem to have fewer break-outs these days which is a great added bonus. I've also noticed that the dry patches I used to get around my nose have significantly reduced to the point where they are practically non-existent. It's also unbelievable value as you only need a small amount of this cream to cover your entire face and neck. I'll probably get another couple of weeks out of the jar I currently have and will definitely be repurchasing.

My only gripe would be the jar packaging. I hate getting the cream all under my fingernails when scooping it out (I'm way too lazy to use a cotton bud to get it out) and would love it to be available in either a pump pack or tube where you could just squeeze the cream out instead. This is not something that would deter me from purchasing it again though.

Has anyone else tried this night cream? Are there any other budget friendly night creams that you would recommend?

Review - Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub

I have using this scrub for a few weeks now and absolutely love it. I've always been a big fan of the Palmer's range and this scrub is no exception.

This is quite a grainy scrub which I like. I try to be open minded with exfoliators but I must say that deep down I don't really believe an exfoliator can truly work without scrubby bits!

One thing that can be a bit of a problem is that because this scrub is so thick it is quite hard to squeeze out of the tube. You really have to put some effort into getting this product out which can be a good thing I guess because you will never squeeze out more than you need.

After using this in the shower my skin feels so super soft and my moisturiser just sinks straight in. This is a very heavy scrub so due to my sensitive skin I have found that using it every 3rd or 4th day is ideal for me. Any more than that and my skin can feel a little dry. I haven't noticed any irritation at all from using it and the smell is just divine! It's not the usual cocoa butter smell but a little bit more floral. The pack calls it a White Lily fragrance.

I've even been using this as a lip scrub occasionally and love how soft and supple it makes my lips feel after use.

Overall, if you're a fan of grainy scrubs then you should definitely try this one. As with all Palmer's products it's reasonably priced and I'm expecting my tube to last for at least another couple of months at the rate I've been using it.

Are you a Palmer's fan like me?

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Body Gloss

I have always been a huge fan of all the Palmer's cocoa butter products as they are just so nice and simple and make your skin feel and smell gorgeous.

I picked this Body Gloss up mainly to use when going out to give my skin a nice glow and also because I read that it is good to enhance a self tan. I know it's been out for quite a while but as it's a new discovery to me I couldn't help but give my opinion on it after using it for the past couple of months now.

Palmer's Body Gloss is a rich, luxurious cream that illuminates skin with a subtle shimmer. It contains pure Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E and other rich emolients to provide just the right amount of moisture leaving your skin soft and smooth.

As you can see from the above photo, this cream is very shimmery and it highlights the skin wherever it is applied. It can get a little messy and the shimmer can accumulate on the palms of your hands when applying but this is easily washed off once you're done.

As with all the other Palmer's products I have used over time, I have not been disappointed with this one. It has since become a favourite of mine to apply to my arms, legs and chest area before a night out or when it is a summery day and I want to feel all nice and glowing.

The smell is the typical Palmer's cocoa butter smell and the consistency is pretty much the same as any other body moisturiser.

Once on it makes my skin feel very silky smooth but I'm always a little self-conscious as to what I'm wearing or where I sit as the shimmer does have a tendency to rub off a little onto clothing or other fabric. Due to this I wouldn't recommend wearing this if you are in a mostly black outfit.

Has anyone else used this Body Gloss before? If so, what did you think? Are there other similar products you prefer instead?
